Home Remedies for Acne

If you are an acne sufferer, there are a number of things you can do at home to help prevent acne from developing and to help get rid of acne that has already developed on your skin. With these simple home remedies for acne, you can experience fewer outbreaks and can eliminate acne more quickly. Some of these methods include:

  • Clean your skin regularly and gently

  • Do not handle your skin more than necessary

  • Be careful when shaving

  • Do not overuse cosmetics

Although one of the best home remedies for acne is to cleanse your skin regularly, it is important that you do it gently and use a mild cleanser. Ideally, you should wash your face once every morning and once every evening. In addition, if you engage in heavy exercise, you should wash your face after you are done. Be sure to wash your face thoroughly, including washing under the jaw and all the way to your hairline. After washing your face, be sure to also rinse your skin thoroughly.

If you are not sure of what type of soap you should use, you should discuss it with your doctor. Just be sure to avoid using rough scrub pads or strong soaps as these cleansing methods can actually make the acne problem worse. Unless your skin is very oily, you should avoid astringents as well. Or, use these cleaning products on just the oily parts of your skin.

Many acne sufferers also have a tendency to touch the lesions or to try to pinch, squeeze, or pick at them. This can cause scarring to develop and can lead to dark blotches, so it is best to avoid handling the acne lesions completely. The same is true when shaving the affected area, as nicking the blemishes can lead to further complications. To make shaving go more smoothly, the area should be thoroughly cleansed with soap and water and shaving cream should be applied before shaving.

Cosmetics can also aggravate acne. Therefore, they should be used as sparingly as possible. When you do use cosmetics, select those that are oil free and those that are labeled as being noncomedogenic. Those that are noncomedogenic do not promote the closing of pores.

If you follow these simple home remedies for acne, you should notice a significant difference in the way your skin looks and feels – including saying goodbye to acne!

Understanding How the Blue Light for Acne Works

One of the most exciting treatment methods for treatment of acne is the use of blue light. Using blue light for acne is particularly exciting because it is a non-invasive method of treatment that does not require taking medication and has been proven to be quite effective in the treatment of acne.

Although using a blue light for acne treatment is gaining an increasing amount of attention, many people are still uncertain of how this procedure works. Put simply, the blue light photodynamic therapy method actually kills the bacteria that cause the acne to develop. In most cases, one treatment lasts only 15 minutes and most patients find the treatment process to actually be quite relaxing.

In order to get the full benefit of the blue light acne treatment, the patient will need to undergo two treatments per week for a total of four weeks. Therefore, the patient needs to be prepared to commit this time to the treatment process before getting started. In addition, in order to maintain the results, it is best for the patient to complete what is referred to as a maintenance session once per month.

For those that do not like to take medications or for those that have been unsuccessful in treating their acne with medication, the blue light acne treatment method is a great alternative. It is very safe and has no side effects, unlike many medications for acne. The blue light only penetrates the skin to the depth that is necessary to reach the target and does not affect the normal tissue.

There is very little prep worked involved with the blue light treatment. In fact, the patient only needs to cleanse his or her face with soap and water in order to make sure the skin is free of oil and makeup. The patient may also use a special preparation pad upon arriving for treatment. This pad will help to further cleanse any oil from the skin. Although patients may not have make up on during a treatment, they may apply some immediately after the session is complete.

The Blue Light program for treatment of acne has been quite successful and has helped numerous people in their fight against acne. By sticking with your treatment program and by following through with a regular maintenance schedule, you will likely be able to kiss those blemishes goodbye once and for all!
