Blackhead Removal Tips

A blackhead, which is medically referred to as an open comedo, is a black or yellow looking plug or bump found in the skin. It is just one example of the different types of acne that a person may experience and is believed to be the result of having excess oil pooling in the duct of the sebaceous gland. Since blackheads are quite unattractive, it should come to no surprise that those who suffer from the problem are continual looking for better and more effective methods for blackhead removal.

One of the best ways to deal with blackheads is to prevent them from occurring in the first place. Wearing excessive amounts of makeup can aggravate the condition because it provides for a better environment in which the blackhead-causing bacteria can grow. Since excessive oil on the skin can lead to blackheads as well, it is also important to keep the face washed and clear of oil.

Although some people attempt to treat blackheads by popping or poking them, this only serves to aggravate the condition. Therefore, the best method of blackhead removal is to use a topical medication that is applied directly to the affected area. Some of the medications most commonly used to help treat blackheads include benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur.

Benzoyl peroxide is beneficial because it can help reduce the amount of oil produced by the skin. As a result, the bacteria will not be as likely to develop. In order to remove blackheads that have already developed, Resorcinol and sulfur are both good choice because they help to breakdown the blackheads. Salicyclic acid also helps to break down the blackheads while also helping to reduce the amount of shedding of the cells that line the hair follicles.

Topical medications including these ingredients are available in lotions, gels, soaps, creams, and in pads. Therefore, there are many options available to you and you might need to experiment a little in order to find the one that works best for you. Just keep in mind that none of these methods will be effective if they are not used on a regular basis and it may take a couple of months before you really start to notice a difference.

By fighting the urge to agitate your blackheads and by implementing a regular cleaning routine, you should be able to finally say goodbye to blackheads and will be able to enjoy the clear skin you have always wanted!
