Home Remedies for Acne

If you are an acne sufferer, there are a number of things you can do at home to help prevent acne from developing and to help get rid of acne that has already developed on your skin. With these simple home remedies for acne, you can experience fewer outbreaks and can eliminate acne more quickly. Some of these methods include:

  • Clean your skin regularly and gently

  • Do not handle your skin more than necessary

  • Be careful when shaving

  • Do not overuse cosmetics

Although one of the best home remedies for acne is to cleanse your skin regularly, it is important that you do it gently and use a mild cleanser. Ideally, you should wash your face once every morning and once every evening. In addition, if you engage in heavy exercise, you should wash your face after you are done. Be sure to wash your face thoroughly, including washing under the jaw and all the way to your hairline. After washing your face, be sure to also rinse your skin thoroughly.

If you are not sure of what type of soap you should use, you should discuss it with your doctor. Just be sure to avoid using rough scrub pads or strong soaps as these cleansing methods can actually make the acne problem worse. Unless your skin is very oily, you should avoid astringents as well. Or, use these cleaning products on just the oily parts of your skin.

Many acne sufferers also have a tendency to touch the lesions or to try to pinch, squeeze, or pick at them. This can cause scarring to develop and can lead to dark blotches, so it is best to avoid handling the acne lesions completely. The same is true when shaving the affected area, as nicking the blemishes can lead to further complications. To make shaving go more smoothly, the area should be thoroughly cleansed with soap and water and shaving cream should be applied before shaving.

Cosmetics can also aggravate acne. Therefore, they should be used as sparingly as possible. When you do use cosmetics, select those that are oil free and those that are labeled as being noncomedogenic. Those that are noncomedogenic do not promote the closing of pores.

If you follow these simple home remedies for acne, you should notice a significant difference in the way your skin looks and feels – including saying goodbye to acne!
