Thankfully to those of us suffering from acne, new forms of acne care treatment are on the horizon. In fact, medical researchers are continually working on developing new drugs for acne, especially drugs that can be applied directly to the skin.

In addition to looking for better methods of acne care treatment, researchers are trying to create new medications in response to the continually evolving bacteria that leads to acne. As with all forms of bacteria, the bacteria that leads to acne is becoming resistant to current forms of medication. As a result, the medication is not as effective as it once was. Researchers aren’t sure of how much of a resistance the bacteria have built up already, but they don’t want to take any chances.

While working on these new acne care treatment medications, researchers are also trying to gain a better understanding of acne and how it develops. For example, researchers believe that the amount of sebum produced by the skin plays a large role in the development of acne. Therefore, they are looking into ways to reduce the amount of sebum produced without causing the side effects that are associated with medications currently in use.

Researchers are also looking into how acne affects the immune system. By gaining a better understanding of this connection, they hope to identify ways to treat acne with the body’s own immune system. In addition, researchers are continually looking for new and better ways of removing acne scars, such as by using a laser system to treat the acne and the scars left behind by the troublesome blemishes.

The search for new forms of acne care treatment is a continually evolving process. Researchers must consider the needs and demands of consumers while also fighting against the tendency of bacteria to evolve in order to better survive within its environment. In addition, while researchers may be able to easily come up with methods that will stop acne in its tracks, they must find a method that is safe for the consumer while also delivering great results.

So, for those of us that have been fighting the battle against acne throughout our teen years and into our adult lives, there is new hope on the horizon. Researchers have already made a number of great advancements when it comes to acne treatment, but it is always good to know that more strategies should soon become available.
