Every seems to have their favorite home treatment for acne. We’ll recap some of the favorites below. Proper nutrition is a biggie. Try to avoid those foods high in fats, oils and processed sugar. Your skin will thank you for it. A diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables along with a healthy intake of water will go along way to keeping those pesky zits at bay. We think it’s a good idea to also cut back on your caffeine intake as well. A vitamin and mineral regiment is a good idea as well. Zinc and Chromium is good in fighting your oily skin problem as well as Vitamin A and B6. I’m sure everyone has heard of an oatmeal mask and it’s still a good bet today. Here’s our favorite recipe:
Throw a handful or so of oatmeal into a mixing bowl, and add enough honey to make a nice thick paste. If you want to use a vitamin capsule, squeeze it in at this stage too. When you have it looking nice and gooey, slap it on your face for 15 minutes. To wash off, use lots of lukewarm water, and then apply your regular moisturizer.
Oatmeal is great for oily skins because it’ll absorb excess oil, and honey soothes and smooths skin. It contains high proportions of AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and it’s safe for sensitive skins too. Honey is anti-microbial and it acts as a natural antiseptic as well, it’s pretty much a wonder ingredient. An exfoliator twice a day, morning and night, will get rid of all those dead skin cells and help your fight against acne. However, don’t exfoliate if you have an outbreak of acne, it could make things worse and also avoid using makeup that contain a lot of chemicals and such. A home treatment almost everyone agrees is good is any product containing Benzoyl peroxide. A Chemist (Jack Breitbart) in the Revlon "ointments" division first discovered Benzoyl peroxide’s use for treating acne. It is typically placed over the affected areas in gel or cream form, in concentrations of 2.5% increasing through the usually effective 5% to up to 10%. Research suggests that 5 and 10% concentrations are not significantly more effective than 2.5% and 2.5% is usually better tolerated. It could take 4 to 6 six though before you start seeing the effects of Benzoyl peroxide use. If you find your condition does not clear up in a reasonable amount of time, you may want to consider using oral and topical antibiotics, if prescribed. The most common types of topical antibiotics used for the treatment of acne include Salicylic Acid, which cuts down the shedding of cells lining the follicles of the oil glands; Tretinoin; Adapalene; and Tazarotene. You should see results within five to six weeks. If the condition worsens, your doctor will explain the more aggressive types of treatment available. While acne can be a difficult condition to deal with, it can be treated and will eventually go away. Form babies to adults, acne conditions on harder to deal with for teens. However, if you follow some of these preventative measures, and include a healthy diet, chances are your acne will not progress any further.
